5 Tips for Using Alkaline Ionized Water to Enhance Beverages

Alkaline ionized water is naturally energizing, packed with antioxidants, and more hydrating and alkaline than typical beverages. In fact, a glass of alkaline ionized water alone contains 3-4 times more antioxidants than a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or green tea made with regular water!

Try starting your day off a freshly made smoothie or juice, hydrate with alkaline ionized water throughout the day, and indulge in flavored water or coffee or tea made with alkaline ionized water once in awhile for a treat.

Juicing tips

Fresh juice and smoothies are great because they provide sustenance without using as much energy to digest as regular food. Because fresh juice is so concentrated, juicing even the most alkaline of produce creates a mildly acidic liquid. Therefore it is best to neutralize this acidity by adding approximately four ounces of alkaline ionized water per glass. All fresh juice should be consumed within 12 hours before the nutritional value begins to decrease.

Soak your produce

We recommend that all produce be soaked in alkaline ionized water with a pH level of 9.5 for ten minutes before juicing or cooking. This is to revive fruits and vegetables and give them the electrical charge they have when first picked. Using a setting above 9.5 will create an ORP (oxidation reduction potential) that’s lower to that which is found in nature, thus we don’t recommend exceeding that level. The ten minutes is a minimum but we don’t recommend for soaking much longer than that as the electrical charge tends to decrease with each passing hour.

Rinsing produce with unfiltered tap water is not effective because municipalities add chlorine or chloramines to the water supply to kill bacteria, and those chemicals are absorbed into your produce when “washed” and thus into your body. Chlorine and chloramines have been linked to cancer and can create a host of other health problems like breathing difficulties. Therefore, even if you are not ready to invest in a water ionizer we recommend that you at least consider a water filter.

Brewing coffee and tea

Coffee beans and black teas are considered acidic, however prepearing them with alkaline ionized water can help offset the acidity. Alkaline ionized water also helps pull out the flavor of coffee and tea more effectively, resulting in a rounder, bolder flavor. You will find that you don’t need to use as many coffee beans or grounds and can re-use tea bags when brewing with alkaline ionized water because of this. Amazingly, you do not need to heat the water in order to brew it as alkaline ionized water is able to penetrate the beans/grounds and leaves/tea bags deeper than regular water due to its microclustered size.

Ice cubes

Did you know that you can make ice cubes with alkaline ionized water? You can, and we recommend using alkaline ionized water ice cubes in all beverages to offset acidity and add antioxidants to your beverage.

Hangover cure

Alkaline ionized water has also been found to be helpful as a “hangover cure” and may even be able to prevent hangovers if you add alkaline ionized water and/or ice cubes made with alkaline ionized water to each glass of alcohol. For best results, drink a full glass of alkaline ionized water before hitting the sheets and another glass or two upon rising.

Could You Die From the Water You Are or Aren’t Drinking?

Without water, humans would cease to exist. We rely on water for the transportation of oxygen and nutrients to our cells, to regulate our body temperature, to lubricate and cushion our joints, to help digest our food and to detoxify our bodies through urination, perspiration and elimination.

Dehydration is much more common than most people realize. In fact, 75% of Americans are actually dehydrated right now! Even mild to moderate dehydration can lead to fatigue, dry skin, loss of appetite, headaches, muscle cramps, chills and nausea. It is recommended that we drink a minimum of half our body weight in ounces of water each day to replace the water lost through the daily activities of living. But not all water is created equal.

He we will discuss the water you should and shouldn’t be drinking:

Unfiltered tap water

The positives of tap water are that it is inexpensive and regulated by the government to be neutral or slightly alkaline on the pH scale with a pH of 7 or higher. However, filtering your tap water is Prevention Magazine’s #1 suggestion for reducing your risk of cancer. This is because municipal tap water is laden with a host of known or suspected carcinogens like chlorine, fluoride, mercury and arsenic along with hormone-disrupting chemicals. Some of these toxic chemicals (namely chlorine, chloramines and fluoride) are actually regulated by the government to be there, despite known adverse health effects. Agricultural runoff, chemical cleaning fluids, and pharmaceutical drugs including sex hormones often find their way into our water supplies due to improper disposal. When the water leaves the treatment plant it must travel miles through pipes which may be old and rusted and leach heavy metals into your water. When we consume water that contains traces of synthetic chemicals, we force our liver and kidneys to be the filter, ultimately damaging or destroying two of our vital organs.

Bottled, reverse osmosis or distilled water

Due to fear of contaminants and pollutants in city tap water and added convenience, many people turn to bottled waters, despite the high cost and negative effect the plastic bottles have on the environment. They are then shocked to find that the cons to bottled water don’t end there. Most bottled waters are nothing more than tap water which has been run through a reverse osmosis filter. Reverse osmosis systems remove the good with the bad, so the end product is actually dead, acidic water which forces your body to leach alkaline minerals from your bones to neutralize it. The pH levels of most bottled and distilled waters usually range from pH 3.0 to pH 6.9! A 7.0 reading would be neutral, and because it is a logarithmic scale, a change of one pH unit implies a tenfold shift in alkalinity or acidity. Anything with a pH of less than 7 is acidifying to the body, which means it creates an internal environment where disease can thrive. Distilled water has this same effect on your body and is not recommended for long-term consumption.

The majority of bottled waters have a positive oxidation reduction potential (or +ORP) value, which means it is oxidizing to the body. A negative ORP is required in order to fight free radicals in the body.

Additionally, bottled waters are not heavily regulated, and there have been more than 100 recalls for bacteria and contaminants. A four-year study by the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) found that one-fifth of the sampled bottled waters contained known neurotoxins and carcinogens such as styrene, toluene and xylene. Another NRDC study found that, out of 103 brands of bottled water, one-third contained traces of arsenic and E. coli. This means that out of a sample of 1,000 bottles sold in the U.S., at least 300 would have some level of chemical contamination. Many of the plastic water bottles that the dead water is stored in for months contains BPA, a suspected carcinogen which can and does leach into your water.

A new report on how to reduce exposure to carcinogens from the President’s Cancer Panel suggests that home-filtered tap water is a safer bet than bottled water, and the Environmental Working Group performed a study which determined that the quality of bottled water is often not higher—and is in some cases worse—than that of municipal sources. So despite trying to get contaminant free-water by buying bottled, there are no guarantees except that you will pay more for it than gasoline.

Well Water, Artesian Water, Glacier Water

The water from standard wells contains valuable alkaline minerals and may not have added chemicals like that of municipal tap water supplies, but it also usually contains contaminates and bacterial organisms. Depending on where the well is located, it may be polluted with nitrates form agricultural runoff, arsenic, pesticides, radon, chemicals found in gasoline, etc. Very few regulations exist to govern the quality of private well water supplies, so it is up to the well owner to monitor and test their well water regularly and/or safeguard with a good filtration system.

Artesian water is comprised of naturally pressurized deposits of water that comes up to the surface when a well is sunk, and has the same quantities as those from standard wells. Artesian water is naturally filtered through the aquifer when it surfaces which removes many of the impurities. However, this natural process can require many years, making it harder and harder for the purification process to keep up with the vast amount of contaminates that man puts into the land nowadays.

Glacier water is formed when glaciers melt and the water enters the water cycle. The water is sometimes advertised as being purer than ground sourced water, but where pollutants or precipitation has been combined with water from glaciers, it shows the same impurities as other water.

Spring Water

Pure spring water is difficult to find and sources are limited. Many springs which were once viable are becoming increasingly contaminated. Unless you live next door to a spring, pure spring water is not usually a viable option, and even if you are able to find a reliable source of spring water, you will still be required to filter out the heavy metals. And unfortunately, bottled spring water carries all the same negatives and issues as regular bottled water (outlined above).

Sparkling/Carbonated Water

In order to acheive the fizzy bubbles found in sparkling and carbonated waters, carbon dioxide gas is dissolved under pressure in water. This carbonation process actually renders the water acidic and is oxidizing to the body, which means it speeds up the death of your cells. This applies to all carbonated drinks including sodas which are actually the worst beverage you can choose to drink, as they most of them are even more acidic than alcohol. All acidic beverages can actually leach minerals from your body, thus weakening bones and connective tissue.

Filtered, alkaline ionized water

Chanson water ionizers were created to replicate what happens in nature to unpolluted streams of alkaline water when it runs over rocks and is given a slight electrical charge. Many doctors, scientists, researchers and water experts across the globe agree that filtered alkaline ionized water with a pH of 9.5 is the healthiest type of water you can drink as it provides your body with alkaline minerals which helps neutralize acidity in our every day diet. According to Dr. Robert O. Young, disease cannot thrive unless it has an acidic environment to live and grow in, and by alkalizing our bodies with alkaline water, we are creating a more disease-resistant body. Ionization causes the water molecules to be microclustered, so they are able to hydrate up to six times better than tap or bottled waters.

Alkaline ionized water is also a powerful antioxidant which seeks out and neutralizes free radicals which would otherwise cause damage to cells and bring about disease and premature aging. This is also known as having a negative ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential). Most tap and bottled waters have a very high ORP, which creates free radicals that actually accelerate the aging process. And alkaline ionized water also delivers an abundance of healthy oxygen to your cells in the form of OH-, which is very stable because it is mated with positively ionized alkaline minerals. Thus, drinking alkaline ionized water results in a body rich in health, oxygen and energy.

You have the choice to continue to consume and to bathe in water that has been processed, chemically altered and deconstructed to a form that bares little resemblance to that which God intended, or to turn the clock back using some very clever science and technology that may improve your health dramatically by merely hooking a Chanson prefilter and water ionizer up to your own tap. Insist on the cleanest, healthiest water available - filtered, alkaline ionized Chanson water.

Why Chanson Alkaline Ionized Water is Superior to Sports Drinks

Ask any athlete what the best source of hydration is for playing sports and working out and they will most likely name the leading sports drink. If pressed as to why, their reply may include something like, “Because it’s filled with electrolytes which are lost through sweat, enhances performance and is more hydrating than water.”

Granted, hydration is key to athletic performance and electrolytes are needed by the body. Electrolytes are ionic solutions that maintain fluid balance in people’s cells and are essential for muscle function, blood pressure regulation and other bodily processes. Electrolytes are lost through perspiration, and include the minerals potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, phosphorous and chloride. The #1 leading sports drink boasts small amounts of three out of six, while Chanson ionized water may contain higher levels of all six depending on the source water.

Here are a few more reasons why Chanson ionized water is superior to all sports drinks:

1. Sports drinks are acidic and have a positive ORP, while Chanson ionized water is alkaline and negatively charged

The truth is, the leading sports drink has a pH level of only 2.95, making it MORE ACIDIC than Red Bull and Diet Coke! In fact, according to a study published by “Nutrition Research” in 2008, enamel and root surfaces of teeth were MOST DAMAGED by Gatorade as opposed to some energy drinks, Coca-Cola and apple juice. When you consume acidic foods and drinks, your body leeches alkaline minerals from the body to neutralize them; particularly calcium from bones and magnesium from muscles–two of the most easily and frequently injured areas of an athlete’s body! Thus, drinking sports drinks may actually weaken the body and make it more prone to injury!

In addition, the leading sports drink has a positive Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP) of 318, which means it contains free radicals which actually DESTROY cells! On the contrary, a Chanson Water ionizer can produce alkaline pH levels of anywhere from 8-12 (9.5 is optimal for drinking), with negative ORP levels between -150 and -1250 meaning it contains ANTI-oxidants which combat free radicals.

2. Sports drinks contain calories and carbohydrates, artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners, Chanson ionized water is all natural

The ingredients of the leading sports drink include 94% filtered water, artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners, and not a drop of fruit juice. According to the American Heart Association, women should not consume more than 24 g of sugar per day, and men are recommended not to exceed 36 g daily. However, a 16 oz. bottle of the leading sports drink contains 28 g of sugar. Whereas water is a natural thirst quencher that is free of sugar and calories. But don’t reach for bottled water instead! Most bottled waters are almost as acidic, oxidizing, and many come in plastic-leeching bottles which can contaminate the water within with toxins. Chanson ionized water filters out toxins while leaving all minerals in and is all-natural. We recommend filling BPA-Free Bottles with Chanson ionized water for hydrating at the gym, sporting events, and on-the-go.

3. Sports drinks actually dehydrate, while Chanson ionized water is six times more hydrating than conventional water

According to the leading sports drink’s own web site it, “stimulates thirst so athletes will ingest an adequate amount of fluid and electrolytes to stay better well-hydrated compared to when using beverages without electrolytes, particularly sodium.” It is a scientific fact that by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated, and that acidic foods and drinks are dehydrating to the body. Therefore, what the makers of the leading sports drink do is actually dehydrate you so that you’ll drink more of their product! In contrast, Chanson ionized water is microclustered which makes it up to six times more hydrating than any other liquid including traditional water because it penetrates cells deeper to hydrate and flush out toxins.

In addition, a rag soaked in high alkaline Chanson ionized water may be applied topically to sore muscles and joints to temporary alleviate pain and inflammation and help recover from workouts and injuries quicker, making it ideal for athletes. Can your sports drink do that?

Water ionizers have been used for decades in Japan, Korea and Russia but are still gaining popularity in the U.S. Chanson Water ionizers are endorsed by professional baseball player D.J. Carrasco along with professional bodybuilder Dan Hill. For more information on the benefits of Chanson ionized water, visit www.chansonwater.com.

Start the New Year Off with a Detoxifying Cleanse

Since overeating during the holidays has become commonplace and even “tradition”, most people naturally look to the new year as a fresh start and thus make resolutions to lose weight, quit bad habits like smoking, and start going to the gym.

Goal-setting/planning is the first step towards making positive changes for your health and we recommend that you consider a detox program to kick off the new year. A detox program can aid your body’s natural cleaning process by releasing excess toxins and wastes, improving circulation, and replenishing your supply of alkaline minerals.

There are many different detox methods that you can implement as well as time periods you can choose to do them for. We recommend that you consider the following suggestions and select the methods and time periods you feel are most realistic for you. Obviously the more methods you implement and the longer you do them for, the better your results may be, however taking on too much at once could be counterproductive if you fail to stick with them. We have heard of cleanses lasting anywhere from three days to three months, and people changing their diets for a lifetime or doing one-day-a-week fasts indefinitely.

A detox program can benefit virtually everyone, however if you have a health condition or are pregnant or nursing, you should discuss with your physician before starting any new eating or lifestyle program.

Here are some methods to naturally cleanse and detox your system:

Juice fasts

Fresh juice fasts (especially those high in greens) are a popular way to cleanse and alkalize the body. You can try starting every day with a glass of fresh juice, replace one meal a day with juice, or go all out and drink nothing but juice for weeks or months as Joe Cross did and inspired many others to do in the film “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.” We recommend cucumber-pear and kale-green apple as easy and cleansing duos, but keep in mind that the act of juicing even the most alkaline of fruits and vegetables creates a mildly acidic juice, therefore we recommed that you offset the acidity by diluting with 9.5 Chanson alkaline ionized water. You can juice your own if you own a juicer, or there are companies on the internet that you can order from which will deliver fresh juice to your door daily for the duration of your cleanse.

Hydrate with alkaline ionized water

Drinking Chanson alkaline ionized water is essential throughout any detox program because it helps to flush out the many toxins that will be stirred up and eliminated from fat stores and organs in your body like your lymphatic system and your kidneys. Ionized water is microclustered which means it penetrates cells deeper than traditional water and can thus flush them out more effectively. A Chanson water ionizer is a wonderful investment for overall day-to-day health, not just during a detox. You can also try one day a week “water fasts” where you drink nothing but Chanson ionized water to cleanse your system.

Liquid feasts

One of the reasons juice and water fasts are so effective is because they give your body a break from having to work so hard to break down your food for digestion. Therefore you can also try a liquid diet of blending or pureeing your food if you wish to consume more than just juice or water. Soups and smoothies are examples of liquid feast “dishes” you can try and are recommended by Dr. Robert O. Young in his book “The pH Miracle for Weight Loss.”

Cut the crap

When we consume unnatural foods, they can leave behind a dense residue in our cells, which can turn into excess weight, body odor, wrinkles, cellulite and premature aging. Therefore, sugar, artificial sweeteners, animal products, processed foods, and fried foods should be eliminated from your diet during a detox and reduced in general for overall health. For example, just because coffee, alcohol, milk and sodas are liquids does not mean that they are acceptable for a liquid feast. Likewise, ordering “fresh juice” off of a Jamba Juice menu is not going to have the desired effect due to the excess sugar their smoothies contain. Dairy products clog your system and are acidifying, so avoid yogurt also.

Eat raw

If you choose to incorporate some solid foods into your diet, then you should rely heavily on raw alkaline fruits and vegetables as snacks, starters and even meals. Raw foods are more nutrient-dense than cooked foods and their negative ionic charge is the opposite of the positive ionic charge of toxins in our cells. The fiber found in fruits and vegetables will also help with elimination as well. Consider munching on carrot, celery and bell pepper sticks dipped in hummus, salads with oil-based dressings, and fruits dipped in almond butter.

Colonics

According to Dr. Norman Walker, author of “Colon Health: The Key to a Vibrant Life”: “The elimination of undigested food and other waste products is equally important as the proper digestion and assimilation of food…the very best diets can be no better than the very worst if the sewage system of the colon is clogged with a collection of waste and corruption.” A colonic is a safe and effective method for cleansing the bowels and can be performed by a professional or done in the comfort of your own home with the use of a colema board as often as once a month. Without them, buildup in the bowels can lead to prevention of the absorption of water and nutrients, constipation, growth of harmful bacteria and yeast and autointoxication (when toxins are absorbed into the bloodstream through the colon wall).

Go green

While you’re working hard to watch what goes into and comes out of your body, don’t forget to keep an eye on the toxins you may be exposing yourself to externally. Virtually all chemical-based household cleaners and many personal beauty products like shampoos, deodorants and toothpastes are acidifying to the body and contain known carcinogens. Chanson ionized acidic water–the byproduct of a water ionizer–is an all-natural alternative to everything from mouthwash and facial toner to Windex and Lysol.

Exercise–the alkaline way

“Instead of hard exercise (which creates lactic acid), one should practice traditional Asian soft-style exercises such as yoga, Tai Chi, and Chi Gung on a daily basis throughout the duration of any detox program” according to Daniel Reid, author of “The Tao of Detox.” Don’t have the time and/or desire to learn traditional Asian exercises? Rebounding on a mini-trampoline can dramatically improve lymph flow while exercising every cell in the body, and walking, stretching and aerobic exercise also works well.

Pledge to be stress-free

When stress hormones are released into the system in large amounts, toxins are created and can slow down the detoxification enzymes in the liver. Negative emotions are also very damaging and should be minimized. Dr. Young has seen negative emotions have a more damaging effect on one’s alkalinity than the worst of foods, and world-renowned photographer Dr. Masaru Emoto has documented the effects of negative words on water crystals with pictures (this is important considering that we are about 70% water!)

Practice hydrotherapy

To increase circulation and help flush out toxins, try alternating a very hot shower for five minutes, with cold water for 30 seconds, for a series of three times in a row before wrapping in a towel and getting into bed for 30 minutes. But don’t try this before installing a Chanson Spa Shower Filter, which filters harmful chlorines and chloramines from the water which would otherwise be absorbed by your skin and lungs.

Sweat it out

One way toxins are released from the body is through perspiration, which is why most spas offer saunas and steam rooms. Infrared saunas are preferred as they can cause you to perspire more than twice as much, and if you are going to be using a steam room or wet sauna make sure it is using filtered water so that you are not inhaling the contaminants found in tap water.

Breathe deeply

“Deep breathing greatly enhances oxygenation of the blood and tissues, which helps neutralize acidosis and maintains a healthy alkaline environment inside the body” according to Reid. One of the main ways to move the lymph system is through breathing deeply, so try focusing on your breathing several times throughout the day.

Dry skin brushing

To increase lymph flow, you can use a natural bristle brush on dry skin by brushing in circular motions towards the heart. This will help your lymph system rid itself of the toxins that collect in the lymph glands and keep  the pores of the skin open.

We hope that you will find these detox suggestions helpful and will try to implement one or more of them this new year for better health.

DISCLAIMER: The author of this article is not a trained physician. This advice is not meant to replace that of a qualified physician. If you have a health condition or are pregnant or nursing, you should discuss with your physician before starting any new eating or lifestyle program.

9 Easy Alkaline Substitutions For Better Health

The idea of completely changing one’s eating habits to a whole foods, plant-based diet is overwhelming for most people despite the many proven health benefits that may result. Adding to the challenge may be unsupportive household family members who scoff at the idea of eggplant as a main dish for dinner or refuse to even try tofu. In an effort to help, we’ve created a list of nine small, easy, alkaline substitutes anyone can make to improve their alkalinity (some of which you can swap without the family even noticing!). Even if you never make it to the ideal 80% alkaline/20% acidic ratio, these slight changes will be beneficial to your health and won’t feel like much of a sacrifice (if at all).

1. Instead of Vegetable Oil try Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Corn oil, canola oil, safflower oil, and vegetable oil are refined oils that are not healthy and should be avoided and replaced with cold-pressed oils like extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil and hemp oils. Healthy fats are an important part of an alkaline diet and can be obtained through substituting healthy oils for the more mainstream unhealthy oils. All oils can create free radicals when heated, so we recommend using a small amount of water to steam fry your vegetables and then drizzling oil on top, making your own oil-based salad dressings and drizzling healthy oils on top of vegetable wraps.

2. Instead of Sugar or Artificial Sweeteners try Stevia

Sugar has been linked to cancer and artificial sweeteners are not only acidifying but carcinogenic. Swapping your sugar cubes with stevia, an all-natural sweetener derived from herbs, is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family. According to Ray Kurzwell, author Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever: stevia is highly nutritious, lowers blood sugar in diabetics while regulating blood sugar in non-diabetics, lowers elevated blood pressure, kills bacteria that cause tooth decay, increases energy levels and mental activity, and reduces cravings for alcohol and tobacco. Other natural sugar alternatives: Chicory root, agave nectar.

3. Instead of Table Salt try Sea Salt

Our bodies contain about a pound of salt, and sodium is an alkaline mineral necessary for survival. But the refined iodized salt that sits on most dinner tables in America is completely unhealthy and the type of salt doctors are referring to when they advise patients to cut down on their salt intake. Refill your salt shaker with unrefined sea salt and sprinkle on top of wraps, soups and vegetables. Other alternatives: Celtic salt, Himalayan salt, Real salt.

4. Instead of Peanut Butter try Almond Butter

Peanuts are acidifying to the body and the moldiest, most undesirable peanuts are what is used to make peanut butter. Swap out your P.B. for it’s healthier cousin almond butter, and spread on sandwiches and use as a dip for pretzels, crackers, fruit, and to make smoothies creamier.

5. Instead of Cows Milk try Unsweetened Almond Milk

Cows milk and other dairy products are not only acidifying but contrary to popular belief they actually rob the body of calcium and create a putrid sludge that wreaks havoc on your digestive system. Dump your carton of cows milk and try unsweetened almond milk instead. It is a healthy, delicious, alkaline substitute for drinking, cooking, baking, creamer and making cereal. Other alternatives (buy unsweetened): Coconut milk, soy milk, goat milk, rice milk.

6. Instead of White Rice try Brown Rice

The complete milling and polishing that converts brown rice into white rice destroys 67% of the vitamin B3, 80% of the vitamin B1, 90% of the vitamin B6, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, 60% of the iron, and all of the dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. Fully milled and polished white rice is required to be artificially “enriched” with vitamins B1, B3 and iron. Clearly, brown rice is the nutritional winner over white rice. Other alternatives: Basmati rice, quinoa, jasmine rice, wild rice.

7. Instead of Soy Sauce try Bragg Liquid Aminos

Soy sauce is fermented and acidic. A great substitute is Bragg Liquid Aminos, which is a liquid protein concentrate derived from healthy soybeans, which contains 18 essential and non-essential amino acids in naturally occurring amounts, is not fermented or heated and is gluten-free.

8. Instead of Spaghetti try Soba Noodles

Most pastas are made with refined starches that lack nutritional value. Try swapping your spaghetti for soba noodles, tofu noodles, gluten-free pasta, whole wheat pasta or spaghetti squash. You can also try making your own pasta sauce from scratch instead of using pre-packaged sauces which tend to contain sugar and preservatives.

9. Instead of Bottled Water try Alkaline Ionized Water

Not all waters are created equal. Most bottled waters, along with distilled and reverse osmosis waters are actually acidic. Tap water is regulated by the government to be at least a 7 pH which is neutral on the alkaline scale, but is littered with contaminants. Therefore your best option is alkaline ionized water from a Chanson water ionizer which you can hook up to your tap. The water is pre-filtered and microclustered, resulting in better tasting water with a smoother feel that doesn’t cause bloating. It is also rich in antioxidants and able to hydrate and detoxify better than standard water due to its smaller water molecule size. Being properly hydrated is the key to overall wellness and you will not regret the switch from bottled water to ionized alkaline water.

Why Electric Ionizers are Superior to Non-Electric

Electric ionizer machines are the original water ionizer products released on the world market that produce both alkaline and acid water through electrolysis, but now more and more non-electric “ionizers” seem to be popping up at a fraction of the price claiming to be just as good if not better than the Real McCoy.

Where did these non-electric “ionizers” come from? Well, it’s really simple. They came from people that want to sell a product and they saw the success of the electric ionizer water machines so they figured “Well, a water ionizer costs between $1,000–$2,000 and if I can make a water ionizer that sells for $300–$400, I’m going to become a multi-millionaire!”

The truth is that when water flows over rocks in nature, it naturally ionizes the water, and  our electric water ionizer machines are designed to re-create this process found in nature since not everyone has a waterfall in their backyard. When nature ionizes that water, it does so through ferocious movement and friction over metals and rocks in the river bed which creates an electrical charge amongst the minerals in the water. So then how can something that has no electricity duplicate the way nature makes ionized water through movement and ferocious friction?

The simplest analogy to understand the differences in the two products would be that an electric ionizer is like a water fall, and the non-electric “ionizer” is like a lake. Now where would you prefer to collect your drinking water from? The lake is a stagnant, dead body of water. It contains minerals; it contains things that might be of benefit to the body, but it’s not the living water that we know provides optimal hydration.

So let’s take a look at what benefits and alterations each product actually make to the water.

Chanson Electric Water Ionizer vs. Competitor Non-Electric Water “Ionizer”

Chanson Electric Water Ionizers Provide:

-Alkaline water for drinking

-Acidic water for disinfecting and skin care

-Purified water for use with medication

-Adjustable levels of pH to suit the personal needs of you, your family and even pets

-Certified microclustered water molecules which are up to six times more hydrating

-A negative charge (low ORP) which means it has anti-oxidant properties

-Safe delivery of extra oxygen to your cells

-Filtration of harmful chemicals, toxins, and bacteria

-Tracking of when the filter needs to be changed

-NSF certificiation and he history to back them up - we have the testing, the animal studies, the human studies and are the ones that are used in hospitals all over the world

Competitor Non-Electric Ionizers Provide:

-A two point increase in pH level. This means that if your base water is only a 5 pH, you would only be bringing it up to a neutral 7 pH instead of alkaline water (which would still be better than an acidic 5 pH but important to note). Also, if you are using a base water with a pH of 8 or higher–there are actually quite a few areas around the United States where the tap water is a 9 pH–you could potentially be raising the alkalinity above the recommended 9.5 pH level.

-A negative charge (low ORP) that is only about 1/3 of what an electric ionizer can produce

-Mineral-stripping filtration which in most cases is provided by De-Ionization (DI) Resin which is a toxin that’s basically Super Glue and tar mixed together. When the resin has reached capacity (no way of knowing when without testing) it will actually allow the contaminants into your water and if it’s a low-quality resin the resin itself will also leech into your water. We asked eight water experts who have been in the water filtration industry 10-30 years what their opinion on DI Resin for drinking water products was. Every one of them answered by saying, “DI resin is the nastiest stuff out there and I would never drink a glass of water that’s passed through it.”

-Re-mineralization of the water with “secret ingredients” that are impossible to test or verify

-Uncertified claims of microclustering the water

-No testing to back them up or poof that they are safe for long-term human use

Clearly, non-electric water “ionizers” are inferior to our electric Chanson water ionizers and should not be considered comparable. While they do provide some benefits, they should not be considered ”ionizers.”

The only non-electric product we offer is our AlkaTraveler Stick (ATS) which is best described as a portable alkalizer, not an “ionizer.” It is the ONLY product in its category to pass the NSF safety tests in the USA and is safe for long-term use. The ATS contains only natural ingredients (calcium, vitamin C, tourmaline and magnesium) and is not a filter so it should not be used with unfiltered tap water. It is priced at $89, which is a far cry from the $300-$400 that competitors charge for their non-electric “ionizers.” Its design is more compact and convenient than competitor models and comes in a carrying case that can easily fit in your pocket.

The Secret to a Healthy Sex Life? Alkaline Ionized Water!

Could your kitchen be just as important to your sex life as your bedroom?

According to a British study, many couples run out of steam after having sex because they fail to drink enough water. Doctors have warned that couples who work up a sweat in bed risk dehydration unless they replenish their fluids. Although nine out of ten people drink water after running or going to the gym, only two out of five people drink water after sex despite the fact that 30 minutes of strenuous sexual activity is as hard on the body as a three-mile run or a good gym workout.

We’ve all heard references to French lovers and how the French have heightened romance and sexuality. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the French have more sex than their British counterparts, but did you know that they also drink five times as much water?

Dr. John Leiper, an expert in fluid balance and hydration at Aberdeen University, says many people are unaware that intercourse can be as dehydrating as other forms of exercise. “Sweating, flushing and panting are all signs that the heart rate is faster, meaning that the body is reacting in the same way to sex as it does to other cardiovascular exercises. As we go about our daily activities we continually lose water, even when we are not visibly sweating, so when we take part in exercise or sexual activity this water loss increases and we need to replace it to prevent dehydration.”

Dehydration contributes to vaginal dryness (which–in addition to decreasing pleasure–adds to tear-inducing friction of condoms), loss of libido, fatigue and headaches. Research indicates that dehydration also decreases the volume of blood plasma, which results in less oxygen being delivered to the exercising muscle and increases breathing and heart rates. Since arousal depends on plenty of blood flow to the sexual organs, dehydration can affect sexual performance. Therefore, it’s important to stay hydrated before and after sex.

Sexual stamina drugs like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are acidifying to the body and have been linked to serious side effects including sudden permanent hearing loss and death by heart attack. Drinking alkaline ionized water instead a natural alternative because it is the same frequency of the pineal gland (not to be confused with penile gland) and thus affects all other glands below the pineal gland (which is in the brain) and may stimulate sex drive.

According to Dr. Robert O. Young, author of “The pH Miracle”: “Sexual function and desire are products of the autonomic nervous system, which can be paralyzed by overacidity.” So how do you combat acidity? By hydrating with alkaline water.

A diet rich in alkaline fruits and vegetables can also improve your prowess in the bedroom and keep you sexually healthy, as they provide necessary vitamins and minerals. Benefits of an alkaline diet can include increased production of sex hormones, greater ability to get and stay aroused, and changes in your brain chemistry that make it easier to get in the mood.

Certain beverages like alcohol, coffee and soda can decrease your sex drive and cause dehydration due to their diuretic effect if consumed in large quantities. Most bottled waters are acidic and stripped of minerals, and tap water is full of contaminants. So instead, hydrate with Chanson ionized alkaline water (which is more hydrating than conventional water because it is microclustered and can therefore penetrate cells deeper) to avoid dehydration, boost your energy levels, and (hopefully) improve your sex life!  We recommend that you drink at least half of your body weight in ounces of Chanson ionized alkaline water daily (and more if you have a really steamy session between the sheets!)

Forget Milk. Got Chanson Alkaline Water?

Milk does a body good. Or does it?

For decades we’ve been taught that milk is healthy and full of necessary nutrients and minerals, most of all calcium to build strong bones. So why instead have studies found a link between high dairy consumption and osteoporosis?

Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body’s pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. Calcium from our bones is used to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones it leaves the body via urine, so the surprising net result is an actual calcium deficit after drinking milk.

A 12 year long Harvard Nurses’ Health Study found that those who consumed the most calcium from dairy foods broke more bones than those who rarely drank milk. This was a broad study based on 77,761 women aged 34-59.

Cow’s milk does contain 118 mg of calcium in every 100 grams, but the problem is that those 100 grams also contain 97 mg of phosphorus, and phosphorus combines with calcium in the digestive tract and actually blocks the absorption of calcium.

Cow’s milk also contains 50 mg sodium per 100 grams (compared with only 16 mg in human milk) thus rendering dairy products one of the most common sources of excess sodium in the modern Western diet.

Pasteurization destroys the natural enzyme in cow’s milk required to digest its heavy protein content. This excess milk protein then putrefies in the human digestive tract, clogging the intestines and seeping back into the bloodstream. As the dairy sludge accumulates, the body forces some of it out through the skin and lungs while the rest of it forms mucus that breeds infections, causes allergic reactions, and stiffens joints with calcium deposits. Eliminating all dairy products from the diet has been found to help with conditions such as chronic asthma, allergies, ear infections, and acne.

These days dairy cows are given a host of antibiotics and hormones, traces of which you end up drinking. The government has also set allowable levels of blood, urine and pus in the milk sold for consumption. Pesticides from cow feed also find their way into your milk, and preservatives and additives are used to extend its shelf life.

Cow’s milk is not nearly as good a source of calcium as other far more digestible and wholesome foods. Compare the 118 mg calcium per 100 grams cow’s milk with 100 grams of the following alkaline foods: almonds (254 mg), broccoli (130 mg), kale (187 mg), sesame seeds (1,160 mg) and kelp (1,093 mg).

Goat’s milk approximates the nutritional composition and balance of human milk and is thus better suited to humans than cow’s milk. Non-dairy alternatives are soy milk, rice milk and almond milk, with almond milk being the most alkaline and therefore the highest recommended.

Why Chanson Alkaline Water is Superior to Cow’s Milk

Chanson alkaline water contains calcium and magnesium along with other essential minerals (levels vary depending on source water). Unlike milk, there are no added hormones, antibiotics, preservatives or chemicals (not to mention blood, urine or pus!) in Chanson ionized water, and there have been no known allergic reactions.

Drinking Chanson alkaline ionized water may be a significant source of calcium, providing over one-third of the recommended dietary intake of this mineral in adults. And because magnesium in water is highly bio-available, it is absorbed approximately 30% faster and better than magnesium from food.

Chanson alkaline ionized water is micro-clustered which makes it easier to absorb at the cellular level and thus improves mineral absorption and overall hydration. This increased absorption also aids the detoxification process, allowing the body to rid itself of all water soluble toxins. Therefore, Chanson alkaline water can actually help your body rid itself of the toxins put there by milk and other dairy products!

So instead of asking yourself “Got Milk?” a better question would be “Got Chanson alkaline water?”

Ways to Jazz up the Flavor of Water

We at Chanson Water love the taste of alkaline pH 9.5 water produced by our water ionizers. However, we recognize that drinking nothing but water day in and day out can become a bit tedious at times, and studies show that you’re likely to drink more water if it’s flavored and that it’s important to drink at least half your body weight in ounces daily to avoid dehydration. So instead of reaching for acidic drinks like coffee, soda, black tea, processed “fruit” juice, sports and energy drinks or alcohol, we offer the following (mostly alkaline) suggestions as additives to your ionized water:

  • Crushed fresh mint leaf
  • Lemon wedges
  • Lime wedges
  • Cucumber slices
  • Splash of coconut water
  • Slice of ginger
  • Green tea (can sweeten with Stevia)
  • Cinnamon essential oil
  • Grapefruit juice or sweet grapefruit essential oil
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Fresh lemongrass
  • Lavender
  • Rose petals
  • Coconut water ice cubes
  • Flavored Stevia drops (we like the Sweet Leaf brand)
  • True Lemon, True Lime, True Grapefruit and/or True Orange crystallized substitue
The following are not alkaline additives but should be fine for an occasional treat:
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Kiwi slices
  • Orange slices
  • Raspberries
  • Fresh pineapple chunks
And here are some combinations to try:
  • Ginger, grapefruit
  • Cucumber, strawberries, lavender, lemon
  • Lime juice, lemon juice, raspberries, mint leaves
  • Rose petals, fresh lemon thyme, lemon juice
  • Fresh lemongrass, fresh Thai basil
  • Lemon, ginger, cinnamon
  • Lime, cucumber, fresh thyme leaves
  • Strawberry, kiwi
  • Lavender mint

We hope you find this helpful and inspiring. Feel free to experiment and comment with your favorites or your own ideas! Visit www.chansonwater.com for more information on alkaline ionized water.

Water Facts

This information comes from the article, “A Sea of Dollars” by Charles Fishman and the graphic “Water World” by Francesco Franchi in April’s paper edition of Fast Company:

  • The U.S. loses one gallon out of every six due to leaks in utility pipes.
  • In 1955 Americans used 1,460 gallons of water per person, per day. That number increased to 1,920 in 1980, and decreased to 1,360 in 2005.
  • Four out of 10 people in the world today have either zero access to clean water or have to walk to get it.
  • A typical half-liter bottle of water purchased in a store costs .99 cents. For .99 cents worth of tap water, you can refill your half-liter reusable water bottle 1,740 times from your faucet.
  • It takes five liters of water to produce 2 liters of Coca-Cola.
  • Each person in the U.S. uses 18.5 gallons of water a day just flushing the toilet. A four-person family uses 74 gallons a day to flush. The U.S. as a whole uses 5.7 billion gallons day in our toilets alone.
  • The U.S. uses more water in one day than it uses oil in one year.
